SQ50 O-RunOur Orientation Runs are fun opportunities to prepare for your Squamish 50 weekend. Bring some friends or meet some new ones! We even have a ‘light’ aid station for each run courtesy of Nesters Market, with water, cola, Hammer gels & Heed electrolyte drink, chips, cookies, oranges and bananas. We check everyone in, and make sure you emerge from the wilderness safely at the end.

As part of our ongoing support of SORCA, we charge a $5 donation for O-Runs, which goes 100% towards SORCA trail maintenance. We encourage everyone to register & donate online, but we will also collect payment pre-run at Escape Route. The $5 donation is a minimum – feel free to donate more if you’re so inclined!

2017 Orientation Runs schedule:

Sunday, March 12

The 23 km course, which is also the final 23 km of our 50 km and 50 mile courses.

Meet: in front of Nesters Market, just up the street from our race day finish line. There is plenty of parking and we’ll car pool from here. Please park along the far north end of the parking lot to minimize disruption to customer parking for the day. The run is a point to point and we’ll need to car pool and shuttle up to our starting point at Quest University.

Timing:
8:00 am – meet at Nester’s for check-in and carpool arrangements
8:15 am – car pools depart for Quest
8:30 am – arrive at Quest
8:35 am – head out on the run from Quest

Aid Station: Yup, we’re gonna provide an aid station on a training run cause that’s how we roll! Our aid station will be set up at the entrance to The Far Side. This is 13km into your 23km day.

Once we run back to Nesters we will need to arrange car pooling back up to Quest to retrieve our vehicles. We encourage people to arrange car pool / car drop options in advance of the day if at all possible. We will ensure all who show up are accommodated however.

Approximate Run Times: 2 hours for lead runners, 4.5 hours for back of the pack runners

Sunday, April 23

30 km from Escape Route onto Coho Trail, following the 50 mile course until Entrails, then returning to Escape Route.

Timing:
8:00 am – meet at Escape Route for check-in and pre-run briefing
8:10 am – group photo!
8:15 am – head out on the run

SQ50 Training Run map Apr 19

Please arrive at least fifteen minutes early and park on the perimeter, facing the highway. Grab a coffee and check out Escape Route for all your trail running needs.

Aid Station: At kilometre 18, intersection of The Corners. Aid station #3 on our 50 mile map.

Approximate Run Times: 2.5 hours for lead runners, 5 hours for back of the pack runners

Sunday, June 11

30 km or 40 km from Escape Route onto Coho Trail, following the 50 mile course to Quest University and back to Escape Route. We will skip the Galactic Scheisse section to keep this day more manageable. The 10 km variable is the option to skip the section at Cliff’s Corners.

Meet: 8:00 am at Escape Route. Please arrive at least fifteen minutes early and park on the perimeter, facing the highway. Grab a coffee and check out Escape Route for all your trail running needs.

On the 50 mile map we would be running from aid station 1 to aid station 5, BUT we will be skipping out on the Galactic Scheisse climb as snow levels could still impact the route. Instead of climbing up Plastic and Galactic we will continue running the Northside Connector until we come to the fork where we can turn left to head back towards aid station 4, so that we can once again pick up the 50 mile course at the entrance to Fred.

The 30km route would skip the 10 kilometers following Rob’s Corners that goes down Cliff’s Corners to Tracks From Hell, Of Mice and Men Hill, etc. These runners would instead turn left at this point and continue along the Northside Connector towards what shows on the map as aid station 4 at the entrance to Fred.

**While our official route for the day would technically finish at Quest University the distance back to Escape Route is so minimal that dropping cars is pretty much irrelevant. It is approximately 3km, and all downhill, to get back to where we started. Simply continue past Quest and down the gravel road known as Garibaldi / Mamquam. Do not turn. The gravel will eventually lead to pavement and from there you are but a mile from where your car is parked. Again, don’t turn and you can’t miss Escape Route and the highway.

Aid Station: At the intersection to Rob’s and Cliff’s Corners. Distances to access the aid station on the run would be 18km and 28km (only 18km for 30km runners)

Approximate Run Times:
30km – 3.5 hours for faster runners, 5.5 hours for back of the pack runners
40km – 4.5 hours for faster runners, 7.5 hours for back of the pack runners

Sunday, June 25

35 km or 45 km from Escape Route onto Coho Trail, following the 50 mile course, including Galactic Scheisse to Quest University and back to Escape Route. The 10 km variable is the option to skip the section at Cliff’s Corners.

Meet: 8:00 am at Escape Route. Please arrive at least fifteen minutes early and park on the perimeter, facing the highway. Grab a coffee and check out Escape Route for all your trail running needs.

On the 50 mile map we would be running from aid station 1 to aid station 5, and then back to our cars.

35km route would skip the 10 kilometres following Rob’s Corners that goes down Cliff’s Corners to Tracks From Hell, Of Mice and Men Hill, etc. These runners would instead turn left at this point and continue along the Northside Connector to then head up Plastic and Galactic Scheisse.

Aid Station: At the intersection to Rob’s and Cliff’s Corners. Distances to access the aid station on the run would be 18km and 28km **only 18km for 35km runners** as the 45km runners will do a 10km loop.

Approximate Run Times:
35km – 4.5 hours for faster runners, 7.5 hours for back of the pack runners
45km – 5.5  hours for faster runners, 9 hours for back of the pack runners
